About Colorado Springs

Did you know that in July 1893, Katharine Lee Bates wrote the song “America the Beautiful”, after having admired the view from the top of Pikes Peak?

Situated near the base of Pikes Peak (one of our state’s 53 “fourteeners”), Colorado Springs stands over 1 mile above sea level and is full of memorable sites, including the United States Air Force Academy, US Olympic Training Center, Garden of the Gods, Glen Eyrie, Cog Railway, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Cave of the Winds, The North Pole & Santa’s Workshop, Peterson Air and Space Museum, Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Broadmoor Hotel, and the World Arena. Just a short drive away, you can visit Royal Gorge, Great Sand Dunes National Park, and the Anasazi Cliff Dwellings, as well as Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Bordering over 1 million acres of Pike National Forest, you’ll find no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area ~ such as hiking, biking, rock-climbing, fishing, horseback riding, and golf!

Noteworthy for their world-class skiing, but not-to-be missed for their year-around beauty and enjoyment are the ski resorts, including Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Monarch, Snowmass, Steamboat Springs, and Telluride.

For the sports enthusiasts, Colorado Springs is home to the Air Force Academy Fighting Falcons and Colorado College Tigers, and also features professional baseball and soccer teams in the Sky Sox (AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) and Switchbacks of the United Soccer League.

With so many things to do and see in Colorado Springs, you’re sure to discover why it was selected as the No. 1 Best Big City in “Best Places to Live” by Money magazine in 2006, and designated number one in Outside‘s 2009 list of America’s Best Cities!
